Jammu and Kashmir Gears Up for PM Modi’s Momentous Yoga Day Presence Near Dal Lake, LG Sinha Expects Unity and Wellness Boost
SRINAGAR, June 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude and anticipation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Srinagar on International Yoga Day, highlighting it as a moment of great fortune for Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha emphasized the significance of PM Modi choosing to perform yoga near Dal Lake, stating that the event would be historic with over 7,000 participants joining in.
Sinha underscored PM Modi’s deep connection with Jammu and Kashmir, citing it as a compelling reason for his presence on the 10th International Day of Yoga. He described the event as a pivotal occasion promoting unity, wellness, and celebration, eagerly anticipating the participation of people from across the country.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed pride for the entire Kashmir valley, considering it an honor to host the Prime Minister on International Yoga Day. Reflecting on the growing popularity of yoga nationally and internationally over the past decade, Sinha noted that more than 23.5 crore people had participated in Yoga Day events to date, with significant engagement in Jammu and Kashmir where 23 lakh people participated last year alone.
Regarding PM Modi’s rapport with the people of Kashmir, Sinha dismissed any notion of distance, referencing the overwhelming response to the Prime Minister’s recent public address at Bakshi Stadium. He pointed out that PM Modi remains closely connected with locals through various mediums, acknowledging and appreciating exceptional achievements and initiatives by Kashmiri individuals.
Looking ahead to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and other religious festivals, Sinha assured that the administration was fully prepared with special arrangements in place. He highlighted the economic boost and increased tourist influx following the successful G20 summit last year, viewing the International Yoga Day event as an opportunity to further attract tourists and promote Kashmir as a destination for peaceful living.
Sinha noted a noticeable increase in foreign tourists visiting Kashmir post the G20 summit, with expectations of more nations lifting travel bans after the International Yoga Day celebrations. He anticipated that these events would enhance global recognition for Kashmir, which had garnered attention worldwide due to the high voter turnout in the recent Lok Sabha polls and its peaceful democratic process.
