Jammu Dalits burn the effigies of Gurpatwant Singh Pannu’s statement against Dr Ambedkar

Jammu: 06-04-2025: The Dalits of Jammu and Kashmir burned an effigy of Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, who is an offender, condemning his alleged slanderous remarks about Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr. Ambedkar. The remarks hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community, sparking strong protests.

DOMA-Confederation President R.K. Kalsotra urged the Central Government to extradite Pannu to India and prosecute him under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. He said the Dalit community has a strong bond with the Indian Constitution, drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Pannu’s alleged remarks are seen as an attack on the community’s values and heritage. Dr. Ambedkar, fondly called Baba Saheb, was a visionary politician and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination against Dalits.

Kalsotra further said the Dalits of India consider the Sikh community as a separate community and respect the right of Sikhs to wear Kirpan in the Constitution drafted  by Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar
The DOMA Confederation’s protest highlights the growing tensions between different communities in India. The central government’s response to Pannu’s extradition and prosecution will likely have significant implications for inter-community relations and the country’s commitment to upholding the principles of the Indian Constitution.
