Jammu, Rajouri Witness Anti-Bangladesh Protests Over Hindu Atrocities

Lawyers, Hindu groups demand protection for Hindus in Bangladesh and eviction of illegal immigrants from Jammu

Jammu, Dec 23: Protests erupted across Jammu and Rajouri on Tuesday over the brutal lynching of 25-year-old Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) staged a demonstration, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to either bring Hindus to India or ensure their safety in Bangladesh.

Bar Association President Nirmal K. Kotwal condemned the repeated attacks on Hindus, stating, “We want the protection of Hindus. Our country is capable of ensuring either their relocation or security in Bangladesh.”

Das, a garment factory worker, was beaten and hanged by a mob in Baluka, Mymensingh on December 18, and his body was subsequently set on fire, according to local police reports.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena Dogra Front held protests in Rani Park, Jammu, highlighting the alleged discrimination against Hindus in Bangladesh while illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya settlers receive facilities in the region, said the group’s president Ashok Gupta.

In Rajouri district, right-wing groups including Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged demonstrations at Panja Chowk. Protesters also set ablaze an effigy of Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor of the interim Bangladeshi government, as a mark of dissent against the killings.
