Jammu-Srinagar Highway Blocked by Landslides, Mughal and SSG Roads Closed After Heavy Snowfall
Authorities advise travellers to avoid mountain routes as heavy rains and snowfall trigger major disruptions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar, Oct 7: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been closed for vehicular movement after multiple landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides hit various stretches of the route, officials said on Monday.
A senior traffic department official confirmed that the Mughal Road, SSG Road, and Sinthan Top have also been closed due to heavy snow accumulation. The closure has left hundreds of vehicles stranded and disrupted travel between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.
Authorities have urged people to avoid travelling on these routes until they are fully restored. Restoration work is underway, but continuous rainfall and poor visibility are hampering efforts.
Commuters have been advised to check the latest road status through official Traffic Police updates on social media platforms—Twitter (@Traffic_hqrs) and Facebook (“Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police”)—or by contacting the Traffic Control Units in Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, 103), and Ramban (9419993745, 1800-180-7043).
