Jasprit Bumrah Reaches 100 T20I Wickets, Becomes First Indian to Achieve 100+ in All Formats

India, Dec 10 : Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah achieved a historic milestone by claiming his 100th T20I wicket during the first match against South Africa in Cuttack. The landmark came after dismissing Dewald Brevis for 22 off 14 balls and Keshav Maharaj for a duck in the same over.

With this, Bumrah now has over 100 wickets across all three formats of international cricket, joining an elite group alongside Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, New Zealand’s Tim Southee, Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan, and Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi. In T20Is alone, he has taken 101 wickets in 81 matches at an average of 17.92 and an economy rate of 6.35. He is now the second-highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is, behind Arshdeep Singh’s 107 wickets in 69 matches.

Arshdeep Singh praised his senior teammate, saying, “Bowling alongside Bumrah makes things easier. He’s a gentle senior, always polite, and his presence benefits everyone in the team.”

In the match, South Africa chose to bowl first, with Lungi Ngidi taking three key wickets, including Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav, while Lutho Sipamla claimed two more. India posted a total of 175/6, powered by Hardik Pandya’s explosive 59 off 28 balls—his first match back after a quadriceps injury which earned him the Player of the Match award.

Tilak Varma (26 off 32) and Axar Patel (23 off 21) provided crucial support to take India 1-0 up in the five-match series. South Africa was bowled out for 74 in 12.3 overs, with Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel picking up two wickets each, while Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube chipped in with one apiece.

Reflecting on his innings, Hardik Pandya said, “It was more about timing the ball than hitting it hard. I always put the team first, and that mindset helps me contribute effectively.”

India’s victory highlighted Bumrah’s continued dominance, reinforcing his status as a game-changing bowler in international cricket.
