Political leaders mourn deaths as LG Manoj Sinha heads to Srinagar to review situation
Srinagar/Jammu, Nov 15: Political leaders across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the accidental explosion at the Nowgam police station, which claimed nine lives and left 32 others injured.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conveyed “deep sorrow and grief” over the tragic incident. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for all those injured.
Former chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said she was “deeply anguished,” noting that the incident highlights the dangerous conditions under which police personnel work. “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and prayers for strength and swift recovery for the injured,” she posted on X.
People’s Conference president Sajad Lone also termed the incident “heartbreaking” and offered his sympathies to the affected families.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is expected to reach Srinagar on Saturday afternoon to assess the situation firsthand. He cancelled a scheduled security review meeting in Jammu earlier in the day following the tragedy, official sources confirmed.
The massive blast occurred during the extraction of samples from a large cache of explosives seized in the recently busted “white-collar terror module” case. Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the explosion.
