J&K Disaster Management Authority Issues Advisory, Warns of Heavy Rains and Potential Hazards

Jammu, Sept 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (JKUTDMA) has issued a weather advisory cautioning people across several districts of the Jammu region about the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall. According to the advisory, rains are expected from the early hours to the forenoon of September 2, with weather conditions likely to impact multiple districts including Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Samba, and Udhampur.

The advisory has specifically warned of possible cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas, urging residents to exercise caution. “There is a possibility of cloudburst, flash floods, and landslides at few vulnerable places. People are advised to stay alert,” the Authority stated, highlighting the risks posed by the fragile Himalayan terrain during spells of heavy rain.

The JKUTDMA has also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel through landslide-prone areas, and keep away from riverbanks and streams during periods of intense rainfall. It emphasized that in the event of an emergency, residents should dial the emergency helpline number 112 for immediate assistance.

Authorities have further directed district administrations to remain on high alert, ensure preparedness of response teams, and keep machinery ready for quick clearance of debris in case of road blockades. Local administrations have also been asked to monitor water levels in rivers and nallahs and to disseminate timely alerts in vulnerable communities.

This advisory comes at a time when the region has already witnessed several weather-induced disruptions, including flash floods and landslides, in recent weeks.
