J&K Flood Hit Infrastructure To Be Rebuilt With Stronger Standards: Jitendra Singh

Union Minister reviews damage in Jammu villages, assures resilient reconstruction and speedy restoration work

Jammu, Sep 13: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday assured that structures damaged in the recent floods across Jammu region will be rebuilt with stronger specifications to withstand future natural calamities.

During a visit to flood-affected villages in Bajalta and Pargalta panchayats of Jammu district, Singh said, “The damaged structures will be rebuilt with better specifications, based on the experience of the recent floods, so that in case of such calamities in future, they can withstand the impact.”

The minister, accompanied by local MLA Yudhvir Sethi and officers from the UT administration, inspected damaged houses, bridges, and shops across Bain Bajalta, Tutan Di Khoi, Anthan, Badoon, Khana Shargal, and Chalni under the Jammu East assembly constituency.

He instructed officials from the Roads and Buildings and Public Health Engineering departments to immediately begin restoration work in the affected areas. Singh also visited Pargalta panchayat to assess losses to public property, shops, and crops, adding that estimates are being prepared.

In the past few weeks, Singh has toured disaster-hit areas from Chisoti in Kishtwar to the Zero Line in Kathua and Samba, meeting families displaced by torrential rain, flash floods, and landslides. He also reviewed restoration of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which remained closed for over 10 days due to landslides and road cave-ins.

Expressing solidarity with affected families, Singh said efforts are underway to restore essential services and assured people of full government support in rehabilitation.
