J&K Govt Assessing Private Universities Bill, Policy Framework in Progress
Government to assess proposals individually after finalising legislative framework
Jammu, Mar 30: Higher Education Minister Sakina Masood Ittoo on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that the government is currently reviewing a proposed bill related to the establishment of private universities in the Union Territory.
Responding during a session, the Minister stated that the draft legislation is still under examination and no final decision has been taken yet. She emphasized that once the bill is finalized, the government will introduce a comprehensive policy to regulate and facilitate the setting up of private institutions.
The Minister further clarified that proposals received for establishing universities will not be approved automatically. Instead, each application will be evaluated individually, ensuring that all necessary criteria and standards are met before granting permission.
The move is seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen the higher education landscape while maintaining quality and transparency in the sector.
