J&K Notifies Master Plans for Jammu, Srinagar; GIS-Based Plan Underway for Pattan

Government tells Assembly Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur and Katra plans are in force; Pattan blueprint assigned to SPA Bhopal under AMRUT 2.0

Srinagar, Feb 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that Master Plans for the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, along with Udhampur and Katra, have been officially notified.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Javid Riyaz Bedar, the government said that 25 additional towns  including Pattan  have been approved for GIS-based Master Plan formulation under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, with work progressing at various stages.

Authorities revealed that the contract for preparing Pattan’s Master Plan has been awarded to the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Bhopal. An agreement was signed on September 10, 2025, with the project expected to be completed within six months. The local area plan for Pattan has already been finalised, and further work is currently underway.

The House was also informed that Master Plans for prominent tourism development authorities such as Patnitop, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Gulmarg have been notified and are now being implemented.

According to the government, these initiatives aim to promote structured urban growth, strengthen infrastructure and support the systematic beautification of major tourist destinations across the Union Territory.
