J&K Receives Over 8,500 Investment Proposals Worth Rs 1.69 Lakh Crore, Promising Over 6 Lakh Jobs

Jammu, March 16: In a major boost to its industrial expansion and economic development, the Jammu and Kashmir government has received over 8,500 investment proposals amounting to Rs 1.69 lakh crore, with projected employment opportunities exceeding 6 lakh jobs. This significant response underscores the growing interest of investors in the Union Territory’s industrial landscape, following comprehensive policy reforms and infrastructural development.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, while responding to a cut motion in the assembly raised by CPI(M) member M Y Tarigami, revealed that a total of 8,532 applications have been submitted through the Single Window System, proposing investments worth Rs 1,69,282.22 crore and employment generation for 6,06,203 individuals. He further stated that investors have sought a total of 80,668.91 kanals (10,083.61 acres) of land to establish industrial units in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Breaking down the investment interest between the two regions, Choudhary said that Jammu has received 2,209 applications with proposed investments of Rs 1,18,918.47 crore, while Kashmir has attracted 6,323 applications amounting to Rs 50,363.75 crore. The employment projections for these investments stand at 2,66,729 jobs in Jammu and 3,39,474 jobs in Kashmir.

Additionally, the demand for land varies across both regions, with applications seeking 46,352.86 kanals (5,794.10 acres) in Jammu and 34,316.05 kanals (4,289.50 acres) in Kashmir.

Land Allotments and Policy Implementation

To facilitate industrial expansion, the government has actively allotted land under the J&K Industrial Policy 2016-26 and J&K Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2021-30. According to official figures, 6,816.25 kanals (852.03 acres) of land have been allotted to 213 non-local investors, while 1,751 local entrepreneurs have been allocated 4,730 kanals (591.25 acres).

Of the total land allocated to non-local investors, 6,408.25 kanals have been granted to 205 industrialists in Jammu, while 408 kanals have been allotted to eight investors in Kashmir. Meanwhile, 1,153 local entrepreneurs in Kashmir have received 2,851 kanals, while 598 locals in Jammu have been allotted 1,976 kanals for setting up business units.

Choudhary emphasized that all land allotments have been made following due procedures outlined in the J&K Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2021-30, ensuring transparency and strategic distribution to drive economic growth.
