J&K Revenue Official Caught Accepting Rs 40,000 Bribe, Arrested by ACB

Bribery Scandal: J&K Revenue Official Arrested by ACB for Rs 40,000 Corruption Case

JAMMU, Aug 31: In a significant crackdown on corruption in Jammu and Kashmir, a revenue official was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the Ramban district on Saturday after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000. The accused, Farooq Ahmad, who was serving as Girdawar in the Sanasar area, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by an aggrieved individual. The complainant alleged that Ahmad had demanded a bribe in exchange for processing a request for a land record extract, which was required for the sale of the complainant’s land.

Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB promptly initiated a discreet verification process to ascertain the validity of the allegations. The verification process confirmed that the revenue official was indeed demanding an illicit payment for performing his official duties. Following this confirmation, the ACB registered a formal case against Farooq Ahmad under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Doda police station.

The operation to apprehend Ahmad was carefully planned and executed by the ACB’s trap team. The bribe money was recovered directly from Ahmad’s possession during the operation, with independent witnesses present to ensure the integrity of the evidence and the procedure. The presence of these witnesses strengthens the case against Ahmad and underscores the thoroughness of the investigation.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to root out corruption in government services and ensure that public servants are held accountable for their actions. The case is currently under further investigation, as the ACB seeks to uncover any additional evidence or potential accomplices involved in the corruption scheme. The swift action taken in this case serves as a stern warning to other public officials who may be tempted to misuse their positions of authority for personal gain.
