J&K Students Face Admission Hurdles Despite University Promises: NC MP in Rajya Sabha
Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo urges parliamentary intervention as students face uncertainty in nursing and medical courses.
New Delhi, Feb 13 : National Conference MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo on Friday highlighted in the Rajya Sabha the difficulties faced by students from Jammu and Kashmir after a Rajasthan university allegedly failed to honour admission promises.
Speaking during Zero Hour, Kichloo said that a number of Jammu students seeking BSc Nursing admissions at Mewar University were denied entry despite prior assurances from the university administration. Out of 82 applicants for nursing courses, none had been admitted, he noted.
The MP also alleged that when students protested the denial, 33 of them were arrested. “If our students aspire to study and pursue higher education, what message does this send? I urge a thorough inquiry and strict action against the responsible authorities,” Kichloo demanded.
Kichloo further drew attention to another issue at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College, where 50 merit based students have been affected following the college’s closure. He appealed for their admission to other institutions to ensure their academic careers are not jeopardized.
The NC lawmaker called for urgent intervention to safeguard the future of these students and stressed that both cases require immediate attention from the concerned authorities.
