JKPCC President Denounces Violence Against Former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah
Tariq Hameed Karra urges accountability for law and order failures following gunman incident in Jammu
Jammu, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra strongly condemned the attempted assassination of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu on Wednesday night, calling for accountability from authorities responsible for law and order.
Abdullah narrowly escaped after 63 year old Kamal Singh Jamwal allegedly opened fire at him from behind while he was leaving a marriage function at Greater Kailash. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s adviser, Nasir Aslam Wani, were also present during the incident.
Jamwal, who was arrested, told police he had been waiting 20 years for an opportunity to target Abdullah. In a post on X, Karra described the attack as “deeply disturbing” and emphasized growing criminalisation and lawlessness in the region. He stated that citizens deserve safety and stability, and warned that those responsible for maintaining law and order must ensure such incidents are not repeated.
