Jammu, Sept 2: In view of growing public complaints over irregularities in water supply, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has issued strict directions to streamline the functioning of water tanker services across the city. The move comes amid increasing dependence on tanker supplies due to rising demand and limited availability of piped water in several localities.
According to the order, Enforcement Officers and Inspectors have been tasked with closely monitoring the supply of water tankers operating from borewells. Their responsibility will be to ensure that the service is carried out in a fair and transparent manner, with timely redressal of grievances. To achieve this, they will work in coordination with the JMC helpdesk, which has been instructed to register and address public complaints promptly.
In addition, Sanitary Inspectors have been directed to supervise the deployment of water tankers at designated locations, ensuring equitable coverage of neighborhoods facing shortages. The Corporation has emphasized that sanitary staff must strictly verify that water tankers deliver supplies as per the slips issued by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, leaving no scope for misuse or diversion.
JMC officials stated that the step was necessary to bring accountability and efficiency into the system, particularly during peak summer demand and in areas where borewell water remains the only lifeline for households and communities. The Corporation further appealed to residents to cooperate with field staff and use the helpline facility to report any lapses in service.
By tightening supervision and introducing coordinated monitoring, the JMC aims to ensure that tanker water reaches the intended beneficiaries without delay, while also eliminating complaints of favoritism or irregular distribution.
