JOBLESSNESS AND THE FUTURE

Dear Sir,

Unemployment, which was already high in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, has seen a further upswing during the pandemic owing to lay-offs in all sectors. Many brilliant young people who left UT in search of greater pastures were forced to return. Even while it seems like a risky position, it can actually turn out to be advantageous. The migration of talent in the wake of the epidemic can be stopped if the government can offer the correct opportunities. Since J&K is not an industrial UT, the only employment options available to young people are in government. Young people graduate with less and less chance of finding a stable career with each passing year. The real issue will be in directing potential in the appropriate direction to build the ecosystem, environment, and infrastructure necessary for young people to become a driving force for economic growth. The government should empower young people through various programmes, which include skill development, in order to provide jobs for them. Young people can pursue their strengths.

Unemployed young people should be made aware of the various UT programmes and offered assistance, especially if they want to launch their own business. Despite suffering during the pandemic, one industry still has potential is tourism. Entrepreneurship in the adventure and eco-tourism industries can be very successful. It won’t be a difficult endeavour with the right road map, and the UT will gain over time. Youths are after all the future of J&K.
