The decision marks a change in approach following a period of heightened scrutiny over England’s off-field conduct. The previous curfew had been introduced after several incidents involving players during the team’s recent campaigns.
Root, who returned to the Test captaincy after Ben Stokes’ retirement, said professional cricketers should be treated as responsible adults and expected to make sensible decisions away from the field.
