Joint Parliamentary Committee Reschedules Waqf Amendment Bill Hearing After Technical Hiccup

NEW DELHI, Sept 18: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has postponed its scheduled meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, originally set for today, due to technical issues.

The rescheduled meeting will now take place over two days, on September 19 and 20, 2024. Initially, the committee had planned sessions on September 18, 19, and 20 at the Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi.

During this rescheduled meeting, the committee will hear oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Additionally, the JPC will review the input of various experts and stakeholders, including Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University, Patna; the Pasmanda Muslim Mahaaz; and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

The committee will also consider suggestions from the All India Sajjadanashin Council, Ajmer; the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Delhi; and Bharat First, Delhi, as part of its deliberations on the proposed amendments to the Waqf Bill.
