Jordan Intercepts Five Iranian Missiles as Regional Tensions Escalate
No casualties reported as regional tensions escalate following American military operations targeting Iranian facilities
Cairo, Jul 30: Jordan’s air defence systems successfully intercepted five missiles launched from Iran early Thursday, preventing them from entering populated areas, according to the country’s armed forces. Officials confirmed that no casualties or property damage were reported following the interceptions.
The announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Jordanian Armed Forces and later carried by the state-run Petra news agency. Authorities said the military remained on high alert as security conditions across the region continue to deteriorate.
The missile interceptions came shortly after the United States announced a major military operation targeting Iran. According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces carried out an extensive series of air strikes in response to an earlier Iranian missile attack on a U.S. military base located in Jordan.
CENTCOM stated that the operation lasted for more than two hours and involved strikes on dozens of locations linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The targets reportedly included military command centres, missile production facilities, drone infrastructure, coastal surveillance systems and air defence installations.
U.S. officials described the operation as a direct response aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities and preventing further attacks on American personnel stationed in the Middle East.
Jordan has not confirmed whether the intercepted missiles were directed at its territory or were passing through its airspace. However, security officials emphasised that the country’s armed forces remain prepared to respond to any threat that could endanger national security.
The latest developments underline the growing volatility across the Middle East, where military exchanges between the United States and Iran have intensified in recent weeks. Analysts warn that continued retaliatory actions could increase the risk of wider regional instability and disrupt diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.
Governments across the region are closely monitoring the situation as international calls for restraint continue amid fears of further escalation.
