José Soriano Creates History as Los Angeles Angels Defeat Cincinnati Reds, Secures Fourth Win in Four Games
Dominant pitching display and early batting surge power Angels to historic series win in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI — José Soriano delivered a sensational performance, striking out 10 batters across seven scoreless innings to guide the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-6 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The right hander became the first pitcher this season to reach four wins, continuing an exceptional start to his campaign.
Soriano, now unbeaten at 4-0, conceded just two hits while issuing three walks over 106 pitches. His remarkable outing further reduced his league best ERA to 0.33, underlining his dominance on the mound. He is the first Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver in 2011 to open a season with four consecutive victories.
The Angels took control early, building a commanding 9-0 lead by the eighth inning. Their aggressive start laid the foundation for a rare series success in Cincinnati—the franchise’s first at the venue since 2007.
Offensively, Nolan Schanuel led the charge with three RBIs, including a key two run single in the opening inning. Mike Trout added impact by scoring three times and delivering an RBI double, while Jorge Soler contributed with a sacrifice fly. Oswald Peraza made an instant mark, launching a home run off the very first pitch he faced.
On the other side, Andrew Abbott endured a difficult outing, allowing seven runs in just three innings. Despite a late push from the Reds, highlighted by Elly De La Cruz’s threerun homer, the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Looking ahead, the Angels are set to face the New York Yankees next, while the Reds prepare for a matchup against the San Francisco Giants as both teams aim to regroup followi ng an eventful series.
