JSW Group, Skoda Auto Volkswagen plan 51:49 India joint venture
The proposed partnership aims to strengthen local manufacturing and expand the companies' presence in India's growing automobile market.
Mumbai, Sep 09 : JSW Group and Skoda Auto Volkswagen have agreed to establish a new joint venture in India, with JSW holding a 51 per cent stake and Skoda Auto Volkswagen owning the remaining 49 per cent.
The companies signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, with the proposed partnership expected to be finalised through definitive agreements by December.
The proposed venture comes as global automobile manufacturers and Indian industrial groups step up investments in local production, seeking to benefit from rising domestic demand and India’s growing importance as a manufacturing base.
The partnership is expected to combine JSW’s industrial and manufacturing capabilities with Skoda Auto Volkswagen’s automotive technology, engineering expertise and global experience.
The companies are yet to disclose the full investment size, product strategy and detailed manufacturing plans for the proposed entity.
The development comes at a time when India’s automobile industry is undergoing significant changes, with manufacturers focusing increasingly on localisation, new energy vehicles and expanding production capacity.
The proposed JSW Skoda Auto Volkswagen partnership could therefore become an important development in the country’s automobile manufacturing landscape as both sides work towards finalising the transaction later this year.
