Kangana Ranaut Takes Back Comments on Farm Laws, Says They Don’t Reflect BJP’s Position

Kangana's Remarks on Farm Laws Spark Controversy; BJP Distances Itself from MP's Statement

SHIMLA, Sept 25: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday withdrew her recent remarks calling for the reinstatement of the three controversial farm laws that were repealed in 2021. She clarified that her comments reflected her personal views and not those of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ranaut acknowledged that her statement might have caused disappointment to many and expressed regret for her remarks.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ranaut emphasized that her stance on the farm laws was solely her own and did not represent the party’s official position. “My views on farmers’ laws are personal and do not reflect the party’s stand on those bills,” she wrote. The Himachal Pradesh BJP, to which Ranaut belongs, has also distanced itself from the Mandi MP’s comments.

In a video posted on X, Ranaut further clarified her position, stating, “When the farm laws were initially proposed, many of us supported them. However, our esteemed Prime Minister, with sensitivity and compassion, chose to withdraw the laws. I regret if my words caused disappointment, and I take them back.”

The controversy arose after Ranaut, during an event in Mandi district, appealed for the return of the farm laws. She had stated that the protests against the laws were limited to certain states and that reinstating them would benefit the agricultural sector by ensuring financial stability and growth for farmers. “Farmers are a pillar of strength for India’s progress, and restoring the farm laws would help in securing their future,” she said at the event.

Ranaut’s remarks, however, sparked reactions from the opposition, particularly the Congress, which alleged that her comments were a signal that the ruling party was considering bringing back the repealed laws. The Congress party, citing the protests that took place in Haryana and across the nation in 2021, declared that Haryana’s voters would deliver a strong response to any such attempts. The state witnessed widespread protests, particularly at the Delhi borders, where farmers demanded the repeal of the laws.

The timing of Ranaut’s comments is significant, as political parties, including the BJP, are gearing up for assembly elections in Haryana, scheduled for October 5. The farm laws had been a major point of contention in the state, and Ranaut’s remarks reignited the debate, drawing sharp criticism from political opponents.

Ultimately, Ranaut acknowledged the sensitivity of the issue and chose to retract her statement, expressing her desire not to cause further discord.
