Kapil Mishra Announces Push for Film Tourism to Create Jobs and Boost Economy
Government focuses on AVGC, AI, and studio infrastructure to position capital as a creative powerhouse
New Delhi, Mar 28: The Delhi Government is stepping up efforts to transform the national capital into a major hub for media, entertainment, and emerging technologies, with a strong push towards film tourism and job creation.
Speaking at the IFFD Industry Conclave 2026, Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra outlined the government’s vision under the theme “Delhi as India’s Creative Capital: Film Tourism for Economic Growth.” He said the initiative aligns with Narendra Modi’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
The government plans to promote sectors such as Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC), along with Artificial Intelligence and modern studio infrastructure, to strengthen the city’s creative ecosystem. Mishra highlighted the proposal to establish an integrated centre where technology, creativity, and innovation can thrive together.
He noted that Delhi’s strong talent base, technical expertise, and energetic youth population will be key drivers in achieving this vision. Platforms like the IFFD conclave are expected to play an important role in connecting industry stakeholders and nurturing opportunities.
The minister also announced that a new film policy is in the works to position Delhi as a preferred destination for filmmakers. As part of the initiative, the government plans to offer subsidies of up to ₹3 crore for film shoots conducted in the capital, aiming to attract large-scale productions and boost employment.
