Karan Singh advocates free and fair assembly elections to bridge the communication gap in J&K

Karan Singh stresses the need for a popular government in Jammu and Kashmir

28-02-2023 : Karan Singh, a veteran Congress leader, has expressed his concern about the lack of communication between the public and the bureaucracy in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He believes that the missing link can be addressed by holding free and fair assembly elections to install a popular government. Singh argues that MLAs play an important role as intermediaries between people and the government. Currently, there are no MLAs in the Union Territory, and the bureaucracy cannot listen to everyone. As a result, Singh believes that there is a gap that needs to be filled.

Singh has also called for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The state was bifurcated into two Union territories in 2019 when the Centre revoked Article 370. Singh believes that restoring full statehood will help to address the communication gap between the public and the bureaucracy. He believes that a popular government will be a link that is currently missing.

When asked about the policies of the BJP-led central government in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh stated that the developments of 2019 were a drastic step to remove the whole special structure, and Jammu and Kashmir has been under central administration for three years. He acknowledged that a lot of good things have happened, but he also believes that there is a lack of communication between the public and the bureaucracy.

Singh also addressed the issue of taking back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He stated that reversing the situation is not easy, and without a war, it is not possible to get it back. Singh also acknowledged that the consequences of war bring death and destruction. While he believes that the areas under illegal occupation of the neighbouring countries are part of Jammu and Kashmir, he also acknowledged that China is standing there, and it is essential to consider the consequences of war.

Singh also opposed forced conversions, both in India and Pakistan, and stated that such things should not happen. Overall, Singh’s views highlight the need for effective communication between the public and the bureaucracy in Jammu and Kashmir, the importance of a popular government, and the challenges associated with addressing the issue of PoK.
