Karnataka Boosts LPG Supply, Cracks Down on Hoarding to Ensure Public Services

Bengaluru, Mar 16: The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Karnataka, announced a significant improvement in LPG supply across the state, covering domestic, auto, and commercial cylinders. The move aims to prevent disruptions in public transport and essential services amid rising demand.

Over the past three days, the state distributed 11.41 lakh domestic cylinders and 20,941 commercial and auto LPG cylinders, marking a roughly 20% increase in supply, following directions from the Union government.

Crackdown on Illegal Storage

Authorities have intensified action against illegal storage, refilling, and diversion of cylinders. Five FIRs were registered across multiple districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Davanagere, Kolar, and Chikkajala. During raids, 514 cylinders were seized for violations such as hoarding and diverting domestic LPG for commercial purposes.

A notable arrest was made in Bengaluru when Mangal Ram, owner of Mahalakshmi Enterprises, was detained for illegally storing 15 gas cylinders to create an artificial shortage. The complaint was filed by food inspector Mahantagouda Tadlagi, and a case has been registered against the accused.

Ensuring Continuity of Public Services

The department stressed that the increased LPG supply would ensure smooth functioning of autorickshaws and other vehicles reliant on auto LPG, as well as uninterrupted access for households and commercial establishments. Officials affirmed that strict action will continue against violators while maintaining adequate distribution throughout the state.
