Kashmir EOW Chargesheets Two in ₹13 Lakh Fake MBBS Admission Scam
Economic Offences Wing files charge sheet in Baramulla court against two Karnataka based accused for cheating a parent with false admission promise.
Kashmir, Jan 16 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet in a case involving alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy, in which a complainant was duped of ₹13 lakh on the false promise of securing an MBBS admission for his son in a medical college in Karnataka.
According to an official statement, the charge sheet in FIR No. 10/2024 has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code before the court of the Sub-Judge, Baramulla. The accused have been identified as Aquib Javeed and Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, both residents of Adarsh Nagar, Ring Road, Gulbarga, in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district.
The case originated from a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that he was approached by one Dr Shamsu-Din, working at Al-Amin Medical College in Bijapur, Karnataka, who assured him of arranging an MBBS admission for his son through accused Aquib Javeed. Acting on this assurance, the complainant paid ₹13 lakh.
However, the promised admission did not materialise, nor was the money returned, prompting the complainant to approach the Crime Branch.
Following the complaint, a detailed investigation was initiated by the EOW, Crime Branch Kashmir. Investigators found that Aquib Javeed, in criminal conspiracy with his brother Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, had allegedly cheated the complainant by falsely promising admission to KBN Medical College, Bijapur.
The investigation established the commission of offences punishable under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC. As the accused were not available during the proceedings, the charge sheet has been submitted before the court in absentia by initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the statement said.
