Fresh Snowfall and Rain Hit Kashmir, Temperatures Remain Above Freezing

Srinagar, Dec 23: Parts of Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall and rain on Tuesday, with most areas reporting minimum temperatures above the freezing point, officials said.

North Kashmir’s famous ski resort, Gulmarg, received intermittent snowfall overnight, which continued into the morning. Other higher-altitude areas including Shopian, Mughal Road, and Gurez in Bandipora also saw snowfall, while the valley plains experienced occasional rain.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.7°C on Monday night, down from 4°C the previous night but still 5.1°C above the season’s average. Other parts of the valley reported minimum temperatures ranging between 3.8°C and 5.6°C.

Tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam registered sub-zero temperatures, with mercury at -2.2°C and -0.2°C respectively. In south Kashmir, Qazigund and Kokernag recorded lows of 3.2°C and 2.8°C, while Kupwara in the north reported 2.4°C.

The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with isolated rain showers, adding that dry weather is expected in the region over the next few days.
