Kashmir Records Temperature Drop Across Most Areas

Mercury falls below seasonal average in most areas; shallow fog persists in parts of the valley.

Srinagar, Dec 11: Residents of Kashmir experienced a colder night on Wednesday as temperatures fell across most parts of the valley, with shallow fog enveloping several areas, officials said on Thursday.

In Srinagar, the night temperature dropped by one degree from the previous night to settle at minus 2.9°C, which is 2.3°C below normal for this time of the season.

Other parts of the valley recorded similarly low temperatures:

Qazigund: minus 3.2°C, down 1.6°C from the previous night

Kupwara (north Kashmir): minus 4.2°C

Kokernag (south Kashmir): minus 1.2°C

Pahalgam: minus 4.6°C, down by a degree

Gulmarg: zero degrees Celsius, slightly warmer by 1.5°C

Pulwama and Shopian: the coldest in J&K at minus 5.2°C each

The Meteorological Department said the weather is expected to remain generally dry until December 12, with the possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of north and central Kashmir from December 13 to 15.

Officials also noted that shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist at many places in the valley over the coming days, impacting visibility in several regions.
