Kashmir Shivers as Cold Wave Intensifies, Srinagar Dips to -4°C
Sub-zero temperatures grip Kashmir and Ladakh, Jammu sees milder cold
Srinagar, Dec 4: The Kashmir Valley continued to shiver under a severe cold wave on Wednesday night, with most locations recording sub-zero temperatures, according to weather officials. Srinagar’s minimum temperature settled at -4.0°C, while Pampore and Pulwama plunged to -5.0°C and -5.6°C respectively. Zojila Pass remained the coldest spot at a chilling -17.0°C.
Other parts of the valley also felt the deep freeze, with Pahalgam at -4.8°C, Baramulla at -4.8°C, Anantnag at -4.8°C, and Shopian at -5.3°C. Areas like Kupwara, Gulmarg, and Kokernag recorded temperatures ranging between -0.8°C and -3.2°C.
Ladakh experienced intense freezing conditions with Leh at -9.0°C, Kargil -7.8°C, and Nubra Valley -7.6°C, while Jammu and surrounding plains saw comparatively milder cold. Jammu city recorded 8.0°C, Katra 8.4°C, and Bhaderwah 0.4°C. Other districts like Banihal, Udhampur, and Rajouri hovered between 1.7°C and 4.7°C.
The extreme temperatures have impacted daily life, with residents advised to take precautions against the biting cold, especially in higher-altitude areas.
