Kerala Police Seize 100+ Boxes of Explosives from Pick-Up Van in Palakkad

Pick-up van carrying gelatin sticks and detonators intercepted; driver in custody

PALAKKAD, Feb 5: Kerala police seized a pick up van transporting over 100 boxes of explosives near Palakkad town on Wednesday night. Authorities recovered more than 100 boxes of gelatin sticks along with 20 boxes of detonators, which were hidden under a consignment of watermelons.

The driver, taken into custody, revealed during interrogation that the explosives were loaded in Coimbatore and were being transported to a quarry in Thrissur. The police intercepted the vehicle following a tip-off about illegal transport of explosives within the state.

“The driver initially failed to stop when signaled by police, leading to a chase before the vehicle was intercepted,” said a Palakkad Town South police officer.

A case will be registered under the Explosive Substances Act once the seizure process is completed. Authorities are investigating further to determine the full extent of the illegal operation.
