Kerala Polls: Development and Welfare at Core of LDF Agenda, Says CM Vijayan

Thiruvalla: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is seeking a renewed mandate in the upcoming Assembly elections to further accelerate the state’s growth and welfare initiatives.

Addressing a press conference, Vijayan described the April 9 polls as a crucial opportunity for voters to ensure continuity in development while safeguarding secular and democratic principles. He asserted that development and public welfare remain the central themes of the LDF’s campaign.

The Chief Minister accused right-wing groups of attempting to mislead voters through misinformation and communal narratives. He also criticised both the Congress and the BJP, alleging that their policies favour corporate interests, while positioning the LDF model as a people-centric alternative with global recognition.

Targeting the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government, Vijayan claimed the 2011–2016 period was marked by administrative failure, economic stagnation, and weakening of key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and industry. He alleged delays in welfare pensions, poor public health infrastructure, and declining standards in education during that time.

Highlighting the LDF government’s performance, he pointed to significant increases in health sector funding, stating that allocations had risen substantially over the past decade. He also cited major investments in infrastructure and healthcare projects through various funding mechanisms.

Vijayan maintained that the LDF has revitalised multiple sectors and is committed to addressing future challenges while meeting the aspirations of the younger generation. Expressing confidence in the alliance’s prospects, he said voters recognise the importance of policy continuity for sustained progress in the state.
