Kevin Pietersen Dissatisfied with Maulana Azad Stadium’s T20 Pitch, Calls for Improvement in Legends League

Jammu, 29-11-2023 : Former England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen, present in Jammu for the Legends League, expressed his dissatisfaction with the refurbished Maulana Azad Stadium’s pitch, deeming it unsuitable for T20 cricket. During a practice session, Pietersen remarked, “The wicket is not good for T20 cricket.” He also shared his disappointment with England’s performance in the recent World Cup, calling it “terrible” and revealing his support for India in the final against Australia, which Australia won.

Pietersen, participating in the Legends League T20 cricket season 2, lauded the league for providing retired players an opportunity to return to the field. The tournament, hosted by the resurrected Maulana Azad Stadium after over three decades, involves six Legends League teams with over 100 former international players. Pietersen acknowledged the warm hospitality in Jammu and expressed excitement about playing matches in the city for the first time.

While appreciating the overall experience, Pietersen criticized the stadium’s pitch for T20 matches, emphasizing the importance of competitive and high-scoring games. He hoped for a better pitch in the upcoming matches. Reflecting on the World Cup final, Pietersen acknowledged Australia’s formidable performance and the pressure on India, emphasizing Australia’s competitiveness.

Discussing the Legends League, Pietersen noted its potential for growth, citing the league’s competitiveness, efficient organization, and logistical excellence. He suggested that players, after retiring from other leagues like the IPL, might consider the Legends League for its high-level competition and opportunities.
