Khalistani and Bangladesh Based Terror Groups Could Target Delhi Ahead of Republic Day: Sources

Security agencies on high alert as mock drills are conducted across sensitive Delhi locations ahead of January 26 celebrations.

New Delhi, Jan 17: Intelligence agencies on Saturday issued a security alert ahead of Republic Day, warning that proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh based terror groups may attempt attacks in New Delhi and other major cities across India.

Sources from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) indicated that Punjab based gangsters are increasingly acting as “foot soldiers” for Khalistani and radical handlers operating abroad. These handlers reportedly leverage criminal networks to further their agendas and disrupt internal security.

The alert highlights that these gangsters are active across Haryana, the Delhi-NCR region, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, gradually establishing links with Khalistani terror elements.

In preparation for the January 26 parade, the North District Police conducted multiple simulated mock drills at crowded and sensitive locations to test response times and preparedness. Locations covered included Red Fort, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar, and several Metro stations, all considered high-risk from a security standpoint.

The drills aimed to enhance anti-terror measures and raise public awareness, ensuring vigilance during potential incidents.

Despite heightened security, celebrations will proceed as planned. At least 30 tableaux will roll down Kartavya Path, showcasing India’s cultural heritage and developmental achievements. The displays will follow the themes “‘Svatantrata Ka Mantr  Vande Maataram’ and ‘Samrddhi Ka Mantr Aatmanirbhar Bhaarat’,” commemorating 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram” and celebrating India’s progress.
