Kharge, Gandhi Arrive in Srinagar Ahead of J&K Assembly Elections

Srinagar 21 Aug : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday for likely meetings with party leaders and workers ahead of the Assembly Elections 2024.

As per the reports, the Congress bigwigs landed at the Srinagar Airport on Wednesday evening and headed towards the Lalit Hotel before conducting the much-speculated meetings, especially with the National Conference concerning the formation of an “alliance” for J&K Assembly Elections.

With Kharge-Gandhi’s visit infusing vigour into the politics of J&K, the duo are expected to meet their party leaders and workers and take stock of the election preparations of the party’s unit in the UT.

Regarding the visit, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had written in a post on X, “On 21st and 22nd August, Hon’ble Congress President Shri Mallikarjun @kharge ji and Leader of Opposition Shri @RahulGandhi ji will be visiting Jammu and Srinagar for key meetings in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections.”

The schedule of Kharge-Gandhi’s visit was marginally altered as both leaders were slated to land in Jammu first for meetings but the itinerary was later changed to Srinagar first, arguably becoming the epicentre of the visit.

It is pertinent to mention that the Election Commission recently announced much-awaited Assembly Elections in J&K to be held in three phases on 18th September 2024, 25th September 2024 and 1st October 2024. (CNS)
