‘Khoon Garam Tha’: Suryakumar Yadav Explains What Set India’s 2026 T20 WC Team Apart from 2024

India skipper contrasts experience of 2024 champions with youthful intensity of latest title winning squad

New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav has drawn a distinction between India’s successive T20 World Cup-winning teams, highlighting how a shift in mindset played a crucial role in their 2026 triumph.

In an interaction, the Indian captain described the 2024 squad as one driven by experience and composure, while the 2026 side thrived on youthful energy and fearless intent. He noted that although both teams possessed similar skill levels, their approach and emotional intensity differed significantly.

The 2024 victory, achieved under Rohit Sharma, featured seasoned campaigners like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, whose experience proved vital in securing the title. In contrast, the 2026 squad marked a generational shift, with younger players stepping into key roles following the exit of senior figures from the format.

Suryakumar emphasised that leading a relatively young team required careful mental preparation, especially with the tournament being hosted in India. He said players had to be made aware of the pressure and excitement of performing in front of massive home crowds.

Despite the lack of experience, the captain credited the team’s hunger and enthusiasm as decisive factors in their success. He added that the emotional stakes were higher in 2026, given the home conditions and the opportunity to lift the trophy in front of Indian fans.

Reflecting on his transition from a key player in 2024 to captain in 2026, Suryakumar said the journey made the victory even more meaningful, underlining the importance of both experience and youthful passion in achieving success at the highest level.
