Six shops, five godowns among assets seized as police intensify efforts to dismantle narcotics networks in the district.

Kulgam, Feb 13: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Kulgam Police on Thursday attached immovable assets worth nearly ₹1.5 crore belonging to an alleged drug trafficker in the Manigam area of Qazigund, officials said.

The seized properties include six shops, five godowns, a tin shed, and a plinth located in Village Manigam. Authorities identified the owner as Mohd Ashraf Khanday, a resident of Nipora in Kulgam, whose properties fall under the jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund.

Officials stated that was carried out under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after completing all legal formalities. Investigators determined that the assets were proceeds of crime generated through illegal drug trafficking and were directly linked to narcotics operations.

Police also confirmed that the accused is named in FIR No. 196/2024 registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station.

Describing the move as part of a sustained strategy to weaken drug supply chains, police said targeting illicit wealth remains a key priority in their campaign against narcotics.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance approach toward drug related offences. He warned that anyone involved in peddling, financing, sheltering offenders, or facilitating the narcotics trade would face stringent legal consequences, including property attachment and financial investigations.

Choudhary further stressed that illegally amassed wealth will be traced and confiscated, adding that enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring that offenders are brought to justice. He also urged citizens to assist law enforcement by sharing information and supporting efforts to safeguard communities, particularly the youth, from the harmful effects of drugs.
