Ladakh Freezes, Kashmir Below Zero, Jammu Feels Slightly Warmer
Drass records the lowest temperature in J&K at -9.9°C as the cold wave grips the Valley, while Jammu remains comparatively warmer.
Srinagar, Jan 17: Ladakh continued to bear the brunt of severe winter cold on Saturday, emerging as the coldest region in Jammu and Kashmir, while the Kashmir Valley recorded widespread sub-zero temperatures. The Jammu region, in contrast, experienced relatively milder weather.
According to temperature data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Drass was the coldest location at minus 9.9°C. Other parts of Ladakh also saw harsh conditions, with Hanle at minus 8.0°C, Leh at minus 7.0°C, Nyoma at minus 5.6°C, and Kargil at minus 5.1°C, keeping most areas well below the freezing mark.
The Kashmir Valley continued to shiver under the cold wave. Gulmarg and Beerwah Budgam were the coldest in the Valley at minus 4.2°C. Zethan Rafiabad and Sopore recorded minus 3.6°C each, while Srinagar dipped to minus 3.2°C. Other towns including Qazigund (-3.4°C), Pahalgam, Kupwara, Kokernag, and Aloosa Bandipora also remained below freezing, highlighting the widespread impact of the cold.
In contrast, the Jammu region experienced comparatively milder winter conditions. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 4.6°C, Katra 7.4°C, and Kishtwar 7.5°C. Banihal and Bhaderwah recorded 0.6°C and 1.5°C respectively, while Rajouri slightly dipped below freezing at minus 0.5°C.
The temperature pattern clearly shows Ladakh as the coldest region, followed by Kashmir in sub-zero conditions, while Jammu continues to remain warmer amidst the ongoing winter.
