LG Manoj Sinha Announces 1,500 Free Houses for Affected Families in J&K Under HRDS

Beneficiary families to receive smart homes, free internet, life insurance, and monthly health check-ups under initiative

Srinagar, Sep 11: The High-Range Rural Development Society (HRDS India) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir for the construction of 1,500 free houses for families whose homes were destroyed during Operation Sindoor, recent floods, and terror-related incidents.

The initiative, spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, aims to provide affected families with modern three-bedroom “Smart Houses” equipped with advanced safety and comfort features. Presiding over the MoU signing ceremony at Raj Bhawan, the LG hailed the project as a step toward empowering and safeguarding those who have endured immense suffering.

“Construction of houses is more than just putting up structures. It is about building dreams, offering a fresh start, and opening a new chapter in the lives of affected families. While human losses are immeasurable, this initiative will certainly ease their suffering,” LG Sinha said.

Beyond housing, HRDS India will provide beneficiaries with extended welfare support. This includes 15-year life insurance coverage, monthly health check-ups, free internet connectivity in collaboration with BSNL, and digital inclusion programs to support education and communication. Trained HRDS volunteers will also visit households monthly to disseminate information on government schemes and conduct free awareness sessions on health, hygiene, and preventive care.

Additionally, HRDS India has committed to repainting each house every five years at no cost to the beneficiaries.

The MoU signing was attended by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the LG; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Aji Krishnan, Founder-Secretary HRDS India; Saritha P Menon, Administrator; Swaraj Kumar G., Director Corporate Sponsorship; and Sanjeev Bhatnagar, Chairman Global Initiatives, HRDS India.
