LG Sinha hails Maharaja Hari Singh as harbinger of change on birth anniversary
Srinagar, Sept 23 : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh on his birth anniversary, describing him as one of the most farsighted rulers of the erstwhile princely state whose progressive measures left a lasting imprint on society.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sinha hailed the late Maharaja as a “statesman of excellence and a harbinger of change,” acknowledging his reformist zeal and his commitment to building a just and inclusive system of governance. He recalled that Maharaja Hari Singh had introduced a series of landmark reforms that placed people’s welfare at the core of administration, ranging from social justice and education to judicial and economic reforms.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Maharaja’s vision of an egalitarian society and his insistence on progressive governance were remarkable for the times in which he ruled. “His inclusive policies and contributions to the motherland remain a source of inspiration for leaders and citizens alike,” Sinha noted.
Maharaja Hari Singh, remembered for his pioneering decisions such as outlawing untouchability, promoting compulsory primary education, and advancing land and revenue reforms, continues to be seen as a ruler who attempted to bridge tradition with modernity. His progressive approach, coupled with a firm belief in justice, earned him admiration both within Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.
LG Sinha observed that as Jammu and Kashmir continues to move forward on the path of growth and inclusivity, the guiding principles laid down by Maharaja Hari Singh serve as a reminder of the importance of visionary leadership rooted in people’s welfare.
The tribute comes at a time when various civil society groups and political parties across the Union Territory have also been commemorating the late Maharaja, underscoring his enduring legacy in shaping the socio-political landscape of J&K.
