LG Sinha Reaffirms Commitment to Transforming Lives of the Poor
350 pre-fabricated houses to be built at ₹35 crore with full funding from HRDS India; beneficiaries to receive insurance, health cover, and long-term support
JAMMU, Dec 8: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of new houses for families affected by recent natural calamities and unprovoked Pakistani shelling during Operation Sindoor in Jammu district.
A total of 350 pre-fabricated, three-bedroom Smart Houses will be built at a cost of ₹35 crore, fully funded by the High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India). The project involves no expenditure from the government treasury, the Lieutenant Governor emphasised, expressing gratitude to the NGO for its “noble initiative”.
Designed to be modern, resilient, energy-efficient and technologically advanced, each unit will also include facilities such as cowsheds. The construction is expected to be completed within six months.
Alongside housing, HRDS India has announced a comprehensive welfare package for the beneficiary families, including:
Free life-insurance coverage for all family members for 15 years
Annual health check-ups
Five-year house maintenance support
Reiterating his administration’s mission, LG Sinha said he remains committed to bringing a “monumental change” in the lives of the poor.
“In the past five years, lakhs of poor beneficiaries have been uplifted and infrastructure in backward regions has been significantly upgraded,” he said, noting that Jammu is experiencing “unprecedented rapid development”.
He added that sustained efforts have helped transform Jammu into an inclusive, modern urban centre, advancing poverty alleviation, social justice, and equal opportunities.
LG Sinha also praised the district administration, police, Army, CAPFs, disaster response teams, Shrine Board and civil society volunteers for their swift and coordinated response in relocating affected families and conducting rescue operations.
A total of 4,309 beneficiaries in Jammu district have received assistance, including ₹8.22 crore in compensation. Families of victims of Pakistani firing during Operation Sindoor have been provided ex-gratia relief and government jobs.
The Lieutenant Governor interacted with beneficiaries, including 23 families displaced by landslides in Rah Salyote village, who have been receiving food and temporary shelter from the district administration for the past three months. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of India and the UT administration toward complete rehabilitation.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Swami Atma Nambi, President of HRDS India; senior government officials; police and civil administration; and local representatives.
