LG Sinha urges use of modern technology to counter misinformation and fabricated narratives

At the Police Commemoration Day event in Srinagar, LG Sinha hails police sacrifices, stresses technological innovation to strengthen peace and counter misinformation in the Union Territory.

Srinagar, Oct 21: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday emphasised the need to leverage modern technology to effectively counter fabricated narratives being spread by inimical elements in the Union Territory.

Addressing the Police Commemoration Day function in Srinagar, Sinha urged security forces to embrace innovation and smart tools to enhance efficiency and maintain lasting peace across J&K.

“There is a need to adopt modern technology to deal with those involved in spreading a fabricated narrative. Through new innovations and by using smart technologies, we can make the police more capable,” the LG said.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and senior officers from the police, civil administration, and other security agencies.

Highlighting the transformation witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir over the past five years, Sinha said the region has seen “historic changes” and called for collective efforts to sustain peace and prosperity.
“We must ensure that people live their lives freely and that peace in Jammu and Kashmir remains undisturbed. No separatist or their handlers should be allowed to disrupt this environment of harmony,” he said.

Paying tribute to the police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty, Sinha noted that 1,614 police personnel have sacrificed their lives fighting terrorism.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police is known for its courage and commitment. I salute their sacrifices and pay homage to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation,” he said.

The LG added that while no monetary compensation can match their sacrifice, the administration is committed to supporting the families of fallen heroes.
“To truly honour their sacrifice, the police must continue to be a driving force for peace and development. They should play an active role in dismantling the terror ecosystem and contributing to the larger growth of the nation,” Sinha said.
