LG Urges Writers to Conduct Research and Use Evidence to Challenge Misleading Historical Narratives
At Kashmir Literature Festival, LG calls on young historians to present accurate accounts and counter misinformation about Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 11: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday emphasized that writers must conduct thorough research and use critical evidence to challenge and correct misleading historical accounts. He made these remarks at the inaugural function of the Kashmir Literature Festival, organized by the Srikula Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Sinha noted that during the colonial era and even after independence, certain writers distorted history to advance ideological agendas. He urged young historians to provide factually accurate accounts to counter these distortions.
“New writers in recent years have made commendable efforts to do justice to India’s history and bring Indian literature to global audiences,” Sinha said.
He also highlighted the need to correct the narrative regarding Jammu and Kashmir, countering misinformation with verified facts. “For decades, a manipulated narrative was propagated in the region. Writers and media, out of fear of terrorism, often promoted narratives pushed from across the border. Now, with the terror ecosystem dismantled, it is time to present the true story of Jammu and Kashmir, free from bias and fear, to strengthen trust and accelerate socio-economic growth,” he added.
Sinha stressed the importance of offering new perspectives to readers in a rapidly evolving world, helping them understand nature, culture, and well-being.
The event was attended by Lieutenant General (Retd.) D.P. Pandey, Yuvraj Srivastava (Founder of Srikula Foundation), senior officials, literary figures, and a large number of youth.
