Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Unveils Report on Central Assembly Proceedings
Rare compilation of pre-Independence legislative debates unveiled at Delhi Assembly along with inaugural issue of ‘Vidhan Chetna’
NEW DELHI, May 29: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday released 89 volumes documenting the proceedings of the Central Legislative Assembly from 1924 to 1930 at a function held in the Delhi Assembly complex.
Calling the publication a landmark initiative in preserving India’s parliamentary legacy, Birla said the compilation would help future generations understand the evolution of democratic institutions and legislative traditions in the country.
“The rare documents will serve as a valuable guide for the younger generation and strengthen awareness about India’s democratic heritage,” he said.
Birla noted that the Delhi Assembly has played a significant role in safeguarding the nation’s legislative history by systematically publishing archival debates and records from the pre-Independence era.
He emphasised that democratic institutions derive their strength from informed discussions, fact-based deliberations and active public participation. Preserving parliamentary heritage, he added, is essential to deepening democratic consciousness in society.
Highlighting the historical significance of the Delhi Legislative Assembly building, the Lok Sabha Speaker described it as a living symbol of India’s freedom movement and parliamentary evolution. He said the complex witnessed several formative moments in the journey of Indian democracy.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Delhi Parliamentary Affairs Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh were also present on the occasion.
During the event, Birla also unveiled the inaugural edition of the Delhi Assembly’s magazine, ‘Vidhan Chetna’.
