L&T Secures Major Electrification Contract for Mumbai Metro Project

Order worth Rs 1,000–2,500 crore includes power supply, traction systems, SCADA, lifts, escalators, and five-year maintenance

Mumbai, Dec 24: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Wednesday that its infrastructure business vertical has secured a significant electrification order for the Mumbai Metro Line 4 project, awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

L&T classifies orders between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as significant. The contract covers the 24.72 km elevated Metro Line 4 corridor from Bhakti Park (Wadala) to Cadbury Junction, featuring 22 elevated stations.

The scope includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of power supply and traction systems, along with a SCADA system for Metro Line 4 and 4A, covering 32 stations, depots, and receiving substations.

Additionally, L&T will execute electrical and mechanical works, lifts, escalators for 22 stations and 2 depots, and provide five years of comprehensive maintenance.

This order marks L&T’s third consecutive contract for the Line 4 & 4A corridor. Earlier, the company was appointed for Package CA-234 (rolling stock, CBTC signaling, telecommunication, platform screen doors, depot machinery) and Package CA-168 (19.5 km ballast-less track-works across 15 stations).

L&T’s continued involvement underscores its critical role in the development of Mumbai’s metro infrastructure and highlights the company’s expertise in complex urban transit projects.
