Manmohan Singh 1st Death Anniversary Yogi Adityanath, Congress Leaders Pay Tributes

Political leaders including Yogi Adityanath, Congress, and NCP remember Manmohan Singh’s legacy in governance and economic reforms

New Delhi, Dec 26 : Marking the first death anniversary of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, political leaders across India paid homage to the veteran statesman, highlighting his contributions to the nation’s economic growth, transparency, and social welfare initiatives.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a tribute on X, honouring Singh’s lifelong service: “Humble tribute to former Prime Minister and Padma Vibhushan recipient, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, on his death anniversary. As Finance Minister and Prime Minister, he made invaluable contributions to the nation’s development.”

The Congress Party also remembered Singh, emphasising his integrity, humility, and vision. “On the death anniversary of Dr. Manmohan Singh, we remember a statesman whose leadership strengthened India’s economy and democracy. Tributes to the Prime Minister who served the nation selflessly and with determination,” the party posted on X.

Political Leaders Pay Homage
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar recalled Singh’s role in championing transparency through the Right to Information Act (RTI) and promoting social welfare via MGNREGA, now updated as VB-G RAM G. “From steering India out of an economic crisis to leading the country for a decade as Prime Minister, his impact was profound. India remembers him as a leader who placed the nation above politics,” Shivakumar said.

NCP leaders also paid tribute. MP Supriya Sule described Singh as “the architect of economic reforms and a world-renowned economist,” while Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar remembered him as a “statesman defined by intellect, integrity, and unwavering service to the nation.”

Legacy of Economic Reforms and Governance
Born on September 26, 1932, Singh was an eminent economist and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (1982-1985). As Finance Minister (1991-1996), he introduced transformative economic reforms that reshaped India’s economy and earned global recognition. Serving as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Singh oversaw landmark initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Right to Information Act, strengthening governance and public accountability.

Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92, in Delhi. He was cremated with full state honours at Nigambodh Ghat, attended by family, colleagues, and government officials. His contributions to India’s economic and social development continue to be remembered by leaders and citizens alike.
