Manoj Mukund Narwane awarded honorary post of ‘General of the Nepal Army’

Discussed issues of mutual interest and defense cooperation with the Nepali Army Chief

New Delhi, 05 November (HC). Nepal’s President Vidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday honored Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narwane with the honorary rank of ‘General of the Nepal Army’. In 1950 Commander-in-Chief General KM Cariappa was the first Indian Army Chief to be conferred with this title. General Manoj Mukund Narwane discussed issues of mutual interest and defense cooperation with the Army Chief of Nepal, General Purna Chandra Thapa.
Earlier, Indian Army Chief General MM Narwane sent medical equipment and additional ventilators to the Nepalese Army for two field hospitals to assist in the fight against Kovid-19. These include X-ray machines, ICU ventilators, video endoscopy units, anesthesia machines and ambulances. General Narwane laid a wreath at the Bir Memorial and received a Guard of Honor at the headquarters of the Nepali Army. Janal Manoj Mukund Narwane, Chief of the Indian Army, is on a tour of Nepal from November 4 to November 6. He has gone on this tour at the invitation of Army Chief General of Nepal Purna Champa. Nepal Army Headquarters holds bilateral talks between the Chiefs of India and Nepal’s Army Chiefs, General Manoj Mukund Narwane and General Purna Chandra Thapa. Issues discussed.

There has been tension between Nepal and India since May this year, so General Narwane’s visit to Nepal is considered very important. During the tension, Narwane had said that Nepal is not raising the issue of border dispute at the instigation of another country. His statement was objected by the Army Chief of Nepal. He has met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during his visit and is scheduled to hold talks with several other civilian and military leaders. The traditional honor of the honorary title of ‘The General of the Nepal Army’ was given today by Nepali President Vidya Devi Bhandari to General Narwane. This honor was introduced in 1950. India also honors the Army Chief of Nepal by giving him the honorary rank of ‘General of Indian Army’.(HC)
