JAMMU, Oct 4: Martand Singh, scion of the Dogra Royal Family and Trustee of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust, has extended his greetings to the newly appointed President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mithun Manhas, and appealed to him to undertake much-needed reforms in the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), where elections were last held in 2016.
In a press release issued here today, Martand Singh underlined that reforms in JKCA are vital to ensure transparency, accountability, and professionalism in its functioning. He observed that a democratically elected and restructured association would enable better utilization of resources, provide fair opportunities to budding cricketers across the Union Territory, and create an encouraging atmosphere for the youth to shine in the sport.
In addition, he called for the establishment of a world-class cricket stadium in Jammu & Kashmir. He stated that such an infrastructure would not only expose local players to international standards but also bring J&K into the spotlight of global cricket. Hosting national and international matches in the Union Territory, he noted, would strengthen sportsmanship, inspire youngsters to consider sports as a career, and generate significant economic benefits through tourism, hospitality, and related industries.
“A modern stadium in J&K can become a hub of sporting excellence while simultaneously creating employment opportunities, boosting tourism, and presenting the Union Territory as a vibrant destination for sports and culture,” he emphasized.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of Mithun Manhas—himself hailing from Jammu & Kashmir—Martand Singh expressed hope that the aspirations of the cricket fraternity and people of J&K will be fulfilled, paving the way for both sporting advancement and economic growth in the region.
