Massive Search Operation Underway in J&K’s Poonch After Infiltration Attempt Thwarted

JAMMU, May 16: Security forces on Saturday intensified a large-scale Poonch search operation across several areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s border district following the recent foiling of an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

The coordinated operation was launched in different parts of Poonch district after security personnel intercepted a group of infiltrators in the Mankote area of Mendhar tehsil on May 12. During the encounter, one intruder was killed while others are believed to have escaped into nearby forested terrain.

Army units, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies have been carrying out extensive combing exercises in multiple locations to track down suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in the region. The operation covers difficult mountainous stretches and densely wooded areas near the LoC.

Officials said security deployment has been significantly increased after the infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector. Additional checkpoints have been established on key roads, while vehicles moving through sensitive zones are being subjected to detailed inspections to prevent any militant movement.

The ongoing search campaign is aimed at eliminating any possible militant presence and maintaining heightened vigilance in vulnerable border areas. Security agencies are also relying on surveillance equipment and ground intelligence inputs to support the operation.

Sources indicated that there were reports regarding the possible movement of a high-profile foreign terrorist in the area. However, officials have not issued any confirmation regarding the presence or identity of such an individual.

The situation across Poonch district remains under close monitoring as security forces continue area domination exercises and maintain strict alertness along the border belt.
