Massive Turnout at Army Organized Marathon Near LoC in J&K’s Poonch
Mendhar Festival Marathon Promotes Fitness, Civil-Military Harmony, and Youth Engagement
Mendhar/Jammu, Dec 9: Over 1,500 enthusiastic youth participated in an Army-sponsored marathon near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday, officials said.
The marathon, flagged off by Brigadier Rahul Kumar, Commander of Bhimber Gali Brigade, aimed to promote fitness and encourage local youth to consider careers in the armed forces.
The event was part of the second edition of the Mendhar Festival, which began on November 23 and will conclude on December 11. Despite the challenging terrain and sensitive location, the marathon drew a massive turnout, reflecting the region’s growing enthusiasm for sports.
Officials highlighted that the marathon not only promoted physical well-being but also strengthened civil-military relations. “Sports act as a bridge between the armed forces and local communities, fostering harmony and shared pride in nation-building,” an Army spokesperson said.
For the youth of Mendhar and neighboring villages, the marathon provided a platform to build confidence, gain exposure, and develop skills in competitive sports, officials added.
