Massive Youth Turnout for Indian Army Territorial Army Recruitment in J&K’s Poonch

Poonch, Dec 9: The Indian Army’s Territorial Army (TA) recruitment drive in Surankote, Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, has seen an overwhelming response from young aspirants, just days after Operation Sindoor. The drive, aimed at offering employment opportunities and strengthening local engagement, will continue until December 15 and is expected to attract over 30,000 participants from across the Union Territory.

Participants expressed gratitude to the Army for conducting the drive at a crucial time. “We are grateful to the Indian Army for this recruitment drive amid rising unemployment. Nearly 1,500–2,000 boys participated today. This is completely free and fair, and just with five minutes of effort, we have a bright future. My family wanted me to serve the nation,” said one aspirant.

Another participant noted the positive social impact of such initiatives, stating, “This is a great opportunity for the youth, who might otherwise drift toward drug addiction. The recruitment was transparent and fair. We are thankful to the Indian Army for this chance.”

In addition, the Ghari Battalion of the Indian Army’s Poonch Brigade flagged off the National Integration Tour from Poonch to Dehradun on Sunday. The tour aims to familiarise students with the cultural diversity and operational aspects of the Indian Army.

Speaking about the initiative, a student said, “The National Integration Tour to Dehradun is a huge opportunity. Two or three students from each school are participating. The tour will last about 10 days and will introduce us to the local culture, different aspects of the Brigade Army, and all that happens in India.”

Shaista Majid, another student, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Even after Operation Sindoor, this is our first time going there. The Poonch Brigade is offering us numerous opportunities, and we are thankful for this initiative.”
